CUMBERLAND – David L. Talley, 77, of Cumberland, passed away on Monday, July 17, 2017 at the Western Maryland Health System Regional Medical Center.

Born on December 4, 1939, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Viola (Schaidt) and Joseph E. Talley, Sr. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Jane E. (Lange) Talley; and two brothers, Joseph E. Talley, Jr., and Terry Talley.

David was a graduate of Fort Hill High School, class of 1958. Mr. Talley was retired from CSX Railroad. He enjoyed numerous hobbies which included: being a catcher for the B & O Railroad softball team, being a member of the GWRRA (Gold Wing Road Riders Association), bowling, and serving as manager for the band Smokey River Breakdown. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and also attended Memorial Heights Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and will be greatly missed.

Surviving are his wife, Lillian (Peachie) Talley; two sons, David J. Talley and wife Shirley, Cumberland, and Chris A. Talley and wife Pattie, Cumberland; step-sons, Mike Billard, Waldorf, and Darryl Billard and wife, Tonya, Oldtown; step-daughter, Lisa Taylor and husband Keith, Alvin, TX; five grandchildren, Jonathan Talley and wife Margery, Ankenny, IA, Elizabeth Talley, Barton, Tryston Smith, Westminster, Logan Talley and Paiton Talley, both of Cumberland; step-grandchildren, Susan Morris, Jimmy Morris, Jessica Gross and husband Patrick, Kevin Billard and wife Jessica, Stephanie Billard, Timothy Billard, Damon and Colten McMannis, and Kylah Taylor; six great-grandchildren; four brothers-in-law, William Lange and wife Darlene, William Knell and wife Jane, James “Buddy” Knell and wife Patti, and Paul Detrick, Jr. and wife Robin; two sisters-in-law, Cindy O’Very and husband Al, and Pauline Mowry and husband Bob; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 from 4 to 7 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Denny Michael officiating.

Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Uhl Highway, Cumberland, following the funeral service.
