RIDGELEY, WV — Dick Ganoe, 77, of Ridgeley, WV, passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2017, surrounded by his wife and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Martha (Whitfield) Ganoe Sr.; sisters, Lavada Davis and Betty Young; and grandsons, Caden and Christian Ganoe.

Dick was a 1957 graduate of Ridgeley High School. He served in the US Marine Corps from 1957-1960. He was a beloved member and elder of the Cumberland Gospel Hall Assembly. He was employed by the Kelly Springfield Tire Company before starting Ganoe’s Masonry, where he worked until his retirement.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. He attended all of their activities. As one grandchild said, “Pappy always bought us pizza and took us to the playground.”

Dick was a hunter and fisherman. He was a sports fan who loved anything that happened to do with West Virginia University.

He is survived by his wife, Joann (Porter) Ganoe; and six children, Debbie Welsh of Keyser, William “Bill” Ganoe, Jr. and wife Sandra of Manchester, CT, Becky Hardy and husband Dan of Welland, ON, Canada, Martha Ganoe of Ridgeley, David Ganoe and wife Sheila of Fort Ashby, and Mary Slider and husband Scott of Ridgeley. Surviving also are two brothers, Ernie Ganoe and wife Carolyn, and James Ganoe and wife Virginia; grandchildren, Matthew Athey and wife Debbie, Brandon, Katie, Quinton and Kaya Welsh, Jacob Ganoe, Brandon and Dana Hardy, Shakayla, Rachella, Nicola, Shilah, Paula, Caleb and Cameron Ganoe, Hanna and Peyton Slider; and four great-grandchildren, Haley, Noah, Regan, and Lucas Athey.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 25, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 15205 McMullen Hwy SW, Cresaptown, MD. A funeral service, officiated by his sons, Bill and David Ganoe, and grandson, Matt Athey, will be held at Day Dream Venue, 1149 Scenic Lane, Ridgeley, WV, on Wednesday, April 26, at 2 p.m. Friends will be received at Day Dream Venue one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Three Churches Cemetery, WV. Military honors will be accorded at the graveside by Ft. Cumberland Post 13 Honor Guard.
