OLDTOWN- Donald O. “Buck” Shoemaker, 86, of Oldtown, passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2017, at Select Specialty Hospital in Johnstown, Pa.

Born on August 14, 1931, in Oldtown, he was the son of the late George and Mattie (Riggleman) Shoemaker.  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Shoemaker; infant son, Ricky Lynn Shoemaker; two brothers, George Shoemaker and Leroy Shoemaker; and one sister, Velma Benson.

Buck was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War.  He was a 61-year member of the District 16 Volunteer Fire Company, the American Legion, and a Lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.  He retired from the CSX Railroad, worked at McDonalds Ambulance Service, and was a long time caretaker of Davis Memorial Cemetery.  Buck enjoyed hunting and spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving are one daughter, Melissa Ann Simmons and husband Bruce, Jr., of Frostburg; two sons, John Steven Shoemaker and friend Faith of Oldtown, and Larry Donald Shoemaker, Sr. and wife Karen of Mt. Savage; two sisters, Mae Cockrum and Jackie Malcolm; two brothers, Harold “Butch” Shoemaker, and Tim Shoemaker; eight grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 from 4 to 8 p.m.

A Funeral Service will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jim Buchanan officiating.

Interment will be in Davis Memorial Cemetery.

Military Honors will be accorded by the Cumberland Post 13 Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be Jason Shoemaker, Elliott Simmons, Derek Simmons, Matt Robertson, Bruce Simmons, and Kenneth Dawson.
