Dr. Robert David Brodell passed away peacefully on Saturday November 18, 2017 in Naples, Florida. Born in Canton, Ohio on November 28, 1932, Dr. Brodell was the son of the late Nathan and Lena (Sklorman) Brodell.
Dr. Brodell dedicated his life to helping others. He served in the medical corps with the United States Army followed by 37 years of pediatric practice in Cumberland, MD. He co-founded the Children’s Medical Group with Dr. Robert Dawson in 1969. Brodell was an active member of the medical staffs at both Sacred Heart and Memorial Hospitals where he served as chairman of pediatrics. He was also an assistant professor of pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and a clinical professor of pediatrics at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. The Maryland Chapter of Pediatrics named him 1991 Pediatrician of the year. He served as the organization’s vice president from 1986 to 1989 and as president from 1989 to 1992. He received a citation from the governor of Maryland in recognition of his medical excellence and commitment to the people of Western Maryland. Upon his retirement, Dr. Brodell and his wife Rae Kline Brodell relocated to Florida where they enjoyed his retirement.
Dr. Brodell is survived by his loving wife, Rae and his brother Harold Brodell; their adoring children Dr. George Brodell and his wife Dianne, and Dr. Lynne Brodell and her husband Howard Hansell. Also surviving are his beloved grandchildren Robert Brodell and wife Arleta, Dr. David Levine and wife Danielle, Rachel Doudt and husband Calvin and Eric Brodell. He was especially delighted to have held and loved his great-grandson Wyatt Doudt.
Services will be held at The Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at 11:00 am. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service.Private interment will be conducted by Rabbi Mark Perman at Eastview Cemetery.
