SARASOTA, FL — Frank Bane Vandegrift, Jr., age 92, died March 3rd 2017, at The Tidewell Hospice House in Sarasota, Florida.  Born February 12, 1925 in Cumberland, MD, he was the son of the late Frank Bane Vandegrift, Sr. and Helen Keller (Mays) Vandegrift.

Frank attended Allegany High School in Cumberland and was a 1943 graduate of Augusta Military Academy in Staunton, Virginia.  He served three years in the Army during World War II, with service in the ETO.

Most of Frank’s career was spent working with his father who was the President of Hudson Oil Company headquartered in Kansas City.  Frank was tasked with many jobs, from overseeing the building of gas stations to becoming an executive officer in the company.  After his father died in 1977, he started his own company, NEWS Stations, Inc., located in the Maryland and Virginia.

Over the course of years, Frank was married four times.  In 1948 he married H. Virginia Stouffer – they moved to Miami, FL where they had their only child, Vicki Lee.  Later, Frank married Elaine Marie Lamoureux – they resided in Fresno, CA with their two daughters, Jo Ann and Debra Lee.  In the early 60’s, Frank married Leonore Babey Stoddard and they took up residence in Leawood, Kansas.  Frank became a widower when she died in 1985.  He married Elizabeth Ernst in 1989 and again became a widower when she died in 2012.  It was then Frank decided to move to Sarasota, FL to be closer to his three daughters.

Frank is survived by his daughters Vicki Lee (and Charles Alkire), Jo Ann (and Donald Rogers) and Debra Lee (and Neely S. Inlow); his step-son, Frank Stoddard (and Nellie); his step-daughters, Elyse and Amy Ernst; his grandchildren, Lisa Wade, Mark Inlow, Douglas Rogers and David Rogers; his great-grandchildren Cassidy, Landon and Cody Wade and Amelia Inlow; and his niece, Penny Wagner and nephew, Lee Wagner.  He lived a rich, full life and will be missed by those who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be held at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. in Cumberland, MD from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Thursday, March, 9, 2017.  A graveside service and burial will follow at approximately 2:30 pm at Sunset Memorial Park in the Veterans Garden of Honor.  Military honors will be accorded at the gravesite by Ft.
