Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Ruby and Wilmer Silber; father-in-law, Eugene “Gene” Abe; brother, Richard Silber; and sister-in-law, Linda Silber.

He was a 1965 graduate of Fort Hill High School, a pipefitter at B&O/CSX railroad until he retired, and the ultimate craftsman…building his own home. He served his country in the United States Armed Forces, Maryland National Guard. Gary loved the outdoors. He enjoyed working in the yard, planting a garden, hiking, skiing, hunting, fishing, biking and just sitting on the patio! He was best known as the “jack of all trades.” His passion for helping others was best seen through his involvement with family, friends, and many service projects, including mission trips through his church, Cornerstone Baptist. His love for God was evident, as he was always willing to serve by using his gifts. He was a great example to everyone, and will be especially missed by his family and friends.

Friends will be received at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 930 Frederick Street, Cumberland, on Thursday, June 22, 2017 from 4 to 8 pm.

A funeral service will be conducted at Cornerstone Baptist Church on Friday, June 23, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. Friends will be received prior to the service on Friday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans’ Cemetery at Rocky Gap. Military Honors will be accorded by the Fort Cumberland Post 13 Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Maryland Salem Children’s Trust, 605 Salem Drive, Frostburg, MD  21532.
