CUMBERLAND – Iris Cecilia Gillum, 98, passed away Saturday, March 25,, 2017, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.  She was born December 18, 1918, to the late Frank and Cecilia (Frey) Martz.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Lloyd “Gil” Gillum, and one brother, George F. Martz.

Iris attended Catholic Girl Central High School and Allegany High School.  She retired from Burton’s Men Store. While she was employed at Burton’s, Iris worked as a Sales Clerk at the Baltimore Street and LaVale store locations.  Prior to being employed at Burton’s, Iris had been employed at the A&P Market on Greene Street.  Iris was a member of Our Lady of the Mountains Parish.  She was a member of the Ladies of the Elks, and she volunteered for several years at Sacred Heart Hospital and recently had been volunteering at the Frostburg Village Center.

She is survived by her sons, Robert B. Gillum and wife Peg, of Bel Air, Cumberland, and Rev. William L. Gillum, ofm, CAP., of Washington, DC; grandchildren, R. Scott Gillum and wife Jennifer, of McLean, VA, and W. Craig Gillum and wife Kimberly, of Monrovia, MD; and great-grandchildren, R. Sloane Gillum, Jackson Gillum, and Alexia Gillum.

Friends will be received Monday, March 27th from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave, Cumberland. A Christian Wake Service will immediately follow at 6:00 P.M..

Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at SS. Peter and Paul Shrine on Tuesday, March 28th at 11:00 A.M..

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
