Fort Worth, TX – John Keith Bates, 54, of Fort Worth, TX, formerly of Cumberland, MD, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2017, at USMD Medical Center in Arlington, TX.

Born in Cumberland, MD, on August 11, 1962, he was the son of Joyce R. Bates Goodman of Rawlings and the late John J. Bates. In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by his son, Darnell Craig Thomas; grandparents, Elton B. (Frisby) and John J. Bates, and Alma (Goodman) Wright. John Keith was also preceded in death by numerous beloved aunts and uncles.

He graduated from Altoona High School in 1979.  Following high school, he served his country in the United States Air Force. He also attended the McKendree United Methodist Church in Cumberland. John Keith loved to travel and cook.  He had a passion for sports cars and racing. John Keith also loved to spend time with his faithful pet, Max.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Janise Roddy, and daughter, Destiny Alexander, both of Fort Worth, TX.  He is also survived by two brothers, Marcus and DJ Bates.  He has many aunts, uncles, cousins, and life-long friends.

Family and friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home at 15205 McMullen Highway, Cresaptown, MD, on Saturday, March 25, from 9-11 a.m.  A funeral service will follow immediately in the funeral home at 11 a.m.

Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Park.

John Keith was loved by many, and he will sadly be missed.
