Cumberland—Joseph Kent Hill, 59, of Cumberland passed away suddenly on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at the Western Maryland Health Center surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Cumberland, MD February 23, 1958, he was the dear son of the late Charlotte (Shumaker) Hill and Frederick J. Hill, Jr., and his wife “Tootsie” (Buzzard) Hill, Cumberland. Kent was also preceded in death by his close friend, Liz Singleton.

Kent was a graduate of Bishop Walsh High School, class of 1976.  Following high school, he worked for the City of Cumberland, Maryland Automobile Insurance Fund, and he was a paralegal in the Wittstadt and Wittstadt Law Firm where he conducted real estate transactions.

In addition to his father and step mother, Kent is survived by three brothers, Frederick J. Hill, III, Stuart, FL, Kevin W. Hill, Sr., Cumberland, and Michael P. Hill and wife Jennifer, Annapolis, MD; nephews, Kevin W. Hill, Jr. and wife Jocelyn and their son Bennett, Matthew R. Hill and wife Tami, and their son Thomas, Alex, and Nicholas Hill; niece, Katie Hill; step-sisters, Julie M. Christopher and husband Todd, and their daughters, McKenzie and Paige, Tammy R. Teaford and husband Bill, and daughters, Haleigh Bayles and husband Brian and their son Karter, and Sydney Brown, and son Cameron Brown; aunt Dr. Rosemary “Kimmie” Hill Wittstadt and husband The Honorable Gerard Wittstadt, Towson, MD; cousins, Gerard “Roddy” Wittstadt, Jr. and wife Lynn, Mark Wittstadt and wife Kendall, Rosemary Padgett and husband William, Ann Watson and husband Christian, John Wittstadt and wife Lauren, and Ashley Garnher and husband Paul.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Hill, Matthew Hill, Alex Hill, Nicholas Hill, John Wittstadt, and Gerard Wittstadt.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A.,108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland on Friday, July 28, 2017 from 4 to 8 P.M. The Christian Wake service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 8 P.M.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick Catholic Church on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 10 A.M.

Burial will be in SS Peter and Paul Cemetery.

The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Kent’s memory make memorial contributions to St. Anthony’s Place, Our Lady of the Mountains Parish, 300 E Oldtown Road, Suite 2, Cumberland, MD 21502.
