Westminster—Kathleen C. “Kathy” Sines, formerly of Mount Savage, now residing at the Sun Valley Assisted Living Center in Westminster, MD, passed away at the center on Thursday, November 23, 2017.

Born in Mt. Savage, MD, on November 17, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Gerald and Georgia (Kellar) Chambers.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald L. “Doc” Sines; son, Arnold E. “Arn” Sines; and brothers, Gerald F. Chambers and John T. Chambers.

Kathy was a graduate of Mt. Savage High School.  Following high school, she received her Bachelor’s Degree in English.  She later received her Master’s Degree in English from Frostburg State University.  Kathy was a substitute teacher in the Allegany County School System for over 40 years.

Kathy was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Mt. Savage, Our Lady of the Mountains Parish.  At the church, Kathy was a CCD elementary teacher.  She was also a member of the Barrelville Outdoor Club, the Kennell’s Mill Outdoor Club, and the White Oak Bowling League.

Kathy is survived by her daughters, Anita Hiler and husband William, with who she had resided in Westminster, Renee Wisenberg and husband Kenny, Cresaptown, and Denise Diehl, Cumberland; grandchildren, Matthew Benson and wife Ashley, Stephen Benson, Alan Sines, Joshua Sines, Jacob Sines, Donald Benson, Augustus Diehl, Sarah Diehl, Christopher Wisenberg, and Noah Hiler; four great grandchildren, Addison, Greyson, Madison, and Raelyn; and brother, James F. Chambers and wife Melody, Sunnyside.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Friday, December 1, 2017 from 5-7 P.M.  A Christian Wake Service will be conducted at 7 P.M. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, in Mount Savage, on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 11 A.M.  Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will take place in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.  The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Kathy’s memory may do so making contributions to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
