LAVALE—Maxine Elizabeth “Maxie” (Moon) Johnson, 75, of LaVale, passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at the Allegany Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Cumberland, MD on September 6, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Russell and Elizabeth (Beckman) Moon. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Harland Moon.
Maxine was a graduate of Allegany High School, class of 1959. While in school, she was a member of the National Honor Society. Maxine was a member of her class reunion committee, and she served as the class historian. Maxine was a lifelong member of Park Place United Methodist Church. At the church, she was very active in many of the church’s activities. Maxine was a member of the Cumberland Jayncees, where she served on many committees, and was an officer in the organization. She also was an active member of the LaVale Homemakers for over 30 years. In addition to being an active member of her church, Maxine was also quite artistic and enjoyed crafting. Maxine was a former employee of the Canteen Service of Cumberland.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Martin L. Johnson; daughter, Nancy Jane Johnson, LaVale; son, Gary L. Johnson, LaVale; brother, Harold Moon, LaVale; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted at the North Glade Cemetery in Swanton, MD on Monday, February 13, 2017 at 2 P.M. with Pastor Vicki Cubbage officiating.
