Cumberland—Paul B. Crites, 86, of Cumberland, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2017 at the Western Maryland Health System Regional Medical Center.
Born in Cumberland, MD on April 14, 1930, he was the son of the late Florence (Weese) and Jesse Crites. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn (Davis) Crites; daughter, Cheryl L. Combs; grandson, Matthew J. Morrissey; brothers, Gene, Frank, Jim, Doc, Charles, Bob, Clyde, and Roy Crites; sisters, Nellie Youngblood and Ruth Shanholtz.
Paul was a graduate of Fort Hill High School, class of 1951. He retired from the Kelly Springfield Tire company in 1987. At the Kelly, Paul was a Tire Builder. He loved to fish and hunt, and in his early years, Paul attended Emmanuel Bethel United Methodist Church. Paul was a gardener who supplied the neighborhood with fresh vegetables. He was a bicyclist who rode his bike every day. He bicycled the C&O Canal to Washington, DC several times. The last time he made this adventure, Paul was 80 years old.
Paul was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by his daughter, Cindy D. Morrissey, Cumberland; grandchildren, Marina Combs, Holiday, FL, Dallas Combs, San Diego, CA, Meredith Morrissey, Tucson, AZ; great-grandchildren, Josiah McCauley, Carter Gaither, Nya Brown, and Noah Brown; son-in-law, Kim Combs, Tucson, AZ; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
At Paul’s request, he will be cremated. A memorial service will be conducted at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, on Saturday, April 15, 2017 with Rev. Marshall Carder officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 3-4 P.M. with the memorial service to follow immediately at 4 P.M.
