FROSTBURG – Robert “Bob” Edward Downton, Sr., 73, of Frostburg, passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2018, at the Frostburg Village Nursing Home.

Born February 4, 1945, in Gainesville, GA, he was the son of the late William O. Downton, Sr. and Joanne H. (Burnette) Downton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, James Downton.

Bob attended Beall High School, then went on to serve in the United States Army. He went on to work at the steel mills in Pittsburgh, drove coal trucks, and managed Fuel City Truck Stop in Grantsville. He was then employed at the Western Maryland Health System as an environmental service aid, and he eventually retired in 2015. In Bob’s younger years, he attended Eckhart Methodist Curch. He loved his family, his grandchildren, his friends, and his dog, Gizzy.

Surviving Bob are his wife of 23 years, Linda (Morral) Downton; son, Robert “Bobby” Downton, Jr. and wife Lisa, Grantsville; daughter, Stacy Fuentes and husband Steve, Galveston, TX; step-son, Joey Starkey and Claudia Comer, Greencastle, PA; grandchildren, Brandon Lee Downton, Grantsville, Derek Schartiger, Oakland, MD, Kayleigh LasDulce and husband Christian, Ft. Stewart, GA, and Jordan Lynn Starkey, Greencastle, PA; great-grandchild, Landon Garrett LasDulce; sister, Beth Swauger, Cumberland; brothers, John Michael Downton, Grantsville, and Bill Downton, Lakeland, FL; his dog and beloved sidekick, Gizmo; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In accordance with Bob’s wishes, his body will be cremated. Friends and family are welcome to attend a memorial service that will be held Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 2 pm at the Midland Fire Hall Community Center in Midland, MD.
