Cumberland—Robert L. Beck, 76, of Cumberland, passed away Monday, March 20, 2017.

Born in Cumberland, MD on July 23, 1940, he was the son of the late Edna (Tracy) and Bernard J. Beck, Sr. In addition to his parents, Bob was also preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Susan V. (Spicer) Beck, and four brother and sisters, Anthony “Tony” Beck and wife Peg, Bernard J. “Skip” Beck, Jr. and wife Rose, Mary Catherine Reid and husband Jim, and Jeannette Hendershot and husband Harold “Butch”; brother-in-law, Leonard Glenn; sister-in-law, Mary Frances “Gus” Alt.

Bob attended LaSalle High School. Following high school, Bob entered the United States Marine Corps after serving in the Naval Reserves.  After serving his country, Bob returned to Cumberland where he worked at the Cumberland Concrete Company until his retirement.

Bob was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Our Lady of the Mountains Parish. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Cumberland Council 586, where he served as a past Grand Knight. In the K of C, he was also a past District Warden for the state of Maryland.  Bob was also a 4th degree knight. He was a member of the Fort Hill Rifle and Pistol Club, and he had been past president of the organization. He, along with his wife Susie, had been members of the Fort Hill High School Band Parents organization.

Bob enjoyed woodworking, leather craft, and photography. Many of his artistic works have been given to the members of his family.

Bob is survived by three children, Kirk L. Beck, Cumberland, Dr. Sarah S. Beck, Cumberland, and Kyle R. Beck and wife Briene, Lusby, MD; brother, James Beck and wife Darlene, Pataskala, OH; sister, Frances Glenn, Cumberland; brother-in-law, G. Bruce Alt, Cumberland; as well as several nieces and nephews, especially Becky and John Dowling, Lonaconing, and Sheila and Donald Greise, Cumberland. Both had assisted Bob throughout his illness.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 from 4-8 P.M. The Rosary will be recited at 8 P.M. at the funeral home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Catholic Church on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at 10 A.M.

Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded at the cemetery by Fort Cumberland Post 13 Honor Guard.
