Cumberland—Sarah E. (Sembower) Mullaney, 92, passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at the Western Maryland Health System Regional Medical Center.

Born in Markleton, PA on May 11, 1924.  Sarah was the daughter of William Francis Sembower and Grace (Boyer) Sembower. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, John E. Mullaney, Sr.; brothers and sister, Helen Clay, Robert, Leonard, Maynard, William, Adam, Maurice, John, Harry, Ray, and Harold Sembower.  Sarah was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Sarah was a graduate of Rockwood High School class of 1942, and the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing Victory class of 1945. She was a registered nurse, working at Memorial Hospital and doing private duty nursing. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Our Lady of the Mountains Parish, the church Sodality, and the Martha’s group at the church.

She is survived by three sons, John E. Mullaney, Jr. and fiancé Rena Sykes, Cumberland, Terry F. Mullaney and wife Leslie, Bel Air, Cumberland, and Patrick K. Mullaney and wife Bonnie of Crozet, VA; four grandchildren, Ryan M. Mullaney, Seattle, WA, Todd A. Mullaney, Cumberland, David C. Mullaney, Cumberland and fiancé, Brooke A. Iser, Cumberland, Sarah A. Hubbell and husband Aaron, Staunton, VA; and one great grandson, Wyatt G. Hubbell.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, on Friday, February 10, 2017 from 5 – 8 P.M.  A Christian Wake Service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 8 P.M.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 10 A.M. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Sarah’s family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Dr. Yuma Shakil and Dr. Robert Welik. Their kindness and professionalism did not go unnoticed.
