CUMBERLAND – Sharon Elizabeth McFarland, 66, of Cumberland, passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at her residence.
Born January 15, 1951, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Peter C. and Harriett (Pollock) McFarland. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Hall; brother, Joseph Logsdon; and niece, Amanda McFarland.
Sharon was a 1969 graduate of Bishop Walsh High School and went on to work at the Celanese Corporation. She attended Montgomery College, and eventually, retired as Director of Sales and Marketing from the National Newspaper Association in Washington D.C. Sharon was a member of S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, as well as an active member of the Bishop Walsh Alumni Association, most notably as the reunion organizer.
Sharon harbored a great passion for history, writing, and baseball – especially the early Pittsburgh Pirates. She was a lover a music who enjoyed the Beach Boys, Beatles, and loved playing her tambourine with Harry Traynham. Sharon was the family historian who kept everyone connected with group pages on social media when she wasn’t visiting with her beloved nieces and nephews at family gatherings and reunions. She loved to reconnect with old friends on social media as well. As a lifelong Democrat, Sharon was incredibly knowledgeable and active in politics. Sharon also enjoyed traveling and was proud to say that she had visited all 48 contiguous states of America. As much as she loved all of her interests and hobbies, Sharon was never happier than when she was married to the love of her life, James Hall. They have finally been reunited.
Surviving Sharon are brothers, Mark McFarland and wife Pam, Franklin, NC, Scott McFarland, Cumberland, and Craig McFarland, Richmond, VA; sisters, Amie Logsdon, Sydney, Australia, and Sylvia Wicklein and husband Lou, Annapolis, MD; nieces and nephews, Tonya McFarland-Keefer, Gregory Wicklein, Ryan McFarland, Justin McFarland, Jeanine Wicklein-Beasley, Sheena McFarland, Bethany McFarland-Lewis, Cory Logsdon, Joshua Logsdon, and Cassie Stott; several grand-nieces and grand-nephews; godmother, Jeannie Fruhlinger and husband Robert; aunts, Barbara Rogan, and Nancy Ellis; and her two best friends she had known since grade school, Angie Natale Feldstein and Pam Merritt Hilleary.

Friends will be received at the Shrine of S.S. Peter and Paul on Tuesday, August 1, 2017, from 1 to 2 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Shrine of S.S. Peter and Paul at 2 p.m. Inurnment will be in S.S. Peter and Paul Cemetery.
