LITTLESTOWN, PA –Shirley J. McKinney, 79, of Littlestown, PA, formerly of Cumberland, MD, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 19, 2017 with her husband and son by her side.

Shirley lived most of her life in Allegany County. Born on November 26, 1937 in Bedford, PA, she was the daughter of the late Mary (Stiver) Ruppenkamp. In addition to her mother, she was also preceded in death by a son, Steven E. McKinney.

Shirley graduated from Allegany High School in 1955, and pursued a career in nursing. Before retiring in 1999, Shirley was a surgical assistant for Dr. Richard Snider for 25 years. Shirley was very active in her church, Grace Memorial Community Church, where she sang in the choir, chaired Operation Christmas Child, and served on many committees.  Shirley also volunteered at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center as a patient advocate and at the front desk.  Before leaving the Cumberland area, she and her husband Ken led the Cumberland Parkinson’s Disease Support Group. Shirley had a true passion for helping others. She was the lead female vocalist for The Summer Wind Band.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth McKinney, Littlestown; one son Mark McKinney and wife Lisa, also of Littlestown; sister, Lois Beckman and husband Larry, Fayetteville, PA; step-father, Gerald Ruppenkamp, Cresaptown, MD; four grandchildren, Bryce McKinney and wife Bonnie, Baltimore, MD, Lana Manning and husband Kyle, Marriotsville, MD, Cameron McKinney and wife Jenny, Frederick, MD, Philip McKinney and fiancé Elizabeth Knott, Frederick, MD; two great-grandsons, Aaron and Caleb Manning, Marriotsville, MD; daughter in-law, Kimberly McKinney of Charleston, SC, and her son Corey Shelton and wife Amanda and their two sons Bentley and Hayden;  as well as several nieces and nephews. Shirley loved dearly, and was very proud of her sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Shirley will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Family and friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 15205 McMullen Highway SW, Cresaptown, MD, on Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

A Funeral Service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 11:00 p.m.
