CUMBERLAND — Stephen Edward “Steve” Shambaugh was born on September 22, 1942, and passed away on April 4, 2017, at 74 years of age. Steve had been sick for several months and was at the Frostburg Village Rehabilitation Center for just five days at the time of his passing.
Steve was the son of the late Ovie and Olivia (Alderton) Shambaugh, of Cumberland, Maryland. Steve was blessed to be a part of a large and loving family, having had ten siblings; Frank, Dennis, Ray, Richard, Bobby, Ronnie, Doris, June, Libby, and Ginny. He, along with his wife, Linda (Carlile) Shambaugh, were further blessed with three children of their own; Selina (Shambaugh) Perrin, Stephen, and Ginny (Shambaugh) Smith. With great pride and joy, Steve and Linda were further blessed with eight grandchildren and two great-granddaughters: Joshua, Bobby, Janessa, Madison, Steven, Drew, Corbin, Sutton, Abigail and Oakley. Steve and Linda had a beautiful life together, having been married over 53 years.
Steve enjoyed many things in life, but none more than his family. He had a great respect for other people while understanding the beauty in not taking things too seriously. He loved to “cut-up” with people. He would say and do things to get a reaction and a good chuckle. He loved to make others laugh and smile. He was a sweet man and knew the power of offering others a kind word, gesture, or just a friendly wave.
He loved horseracing and getting good deal. Being a good salesperson, while being fair, was a trait he admired. One of his greatest joys was picking up his kids, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter after school. He worked hard throughout his lifetime and ensured that his family was well provided for and prepared for living their own lives. He always had his family at the forefront in his mind, and his love for them and theirs for him is eternal, extending past and through time itself.
The family will formally acknowledge Steve’s return to God at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 24 Humbird Street, Cumberland, on Saturday, April 8, 2017. Friends will be received at the Church, with a viewing from 12-1:00 PM and services immediately following at 1:00 PM.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
