SHORT GAP – Travis Phillip Moreland, 28, passed away on Friday, January 20, 2017, and is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  He was born June 6, 1988 and is the son of Allen Moreland and Roxanne Umstot.

He grew up in Short Gap, West Virginia and was a graduate of Frankfort High School where he was a sport enthusiastic participating in football, basketball, baseball and track.  He continued his education attending Fairmont State University.  He was skilled in welding and carpentry.  Travis was a member of the Wiley Ford Church of the Brethren.

Living his life one day at a time, he took the time to enjoy his family and friends and coworkers.  The Serenity Prayer brought him comfort, “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”  Travis was ever mindful that “today is a good day.”  He always took the time to reflect on the love he had for family and the honor he had for friends.  “Travis makes us smile.”

With an appreciation of God’s creative nature, summer was the time of year Travis especially enjoyed spending time on the river fishing from his kayak and in the Fall, deer hunting with his family at their hunting camp in the beautiful mountains of West Virginia.  Travis appreciated community and participated in activities in local organizations.

Travis is survived by his grandparents, Reathard and Odia Moreland, Short Gap, West Virginia; Albert and Lil Shockney, Reisterstown, Maryland; James and Suella Merenda, Kagan, Florida; brother, Logan Umstot and daughter Addison, Short Gap, West Virginia.  Uncles and aunts, Brian and Karen Moreland, Fort Ashby, West Virginia; Christina Moreland, Short Gap, West Virginia; Mark and Pam Howser, Fort Ashby, West Virginia; Shawn and Laura Bakis, and children Brandon and Kerrs, Pennsylvania; Wallace and Leona Walker, Mexico Farms, Maryland.  Cousins are Jason and Amanda Moreland and sons Joel and Jared, Morgantown, West Virginia; Jeremy and Krista Dawson and daughter Leah and son Josiah, Fairmont, West Virginia; Darin and Melissa Moreland and son JD, Fort Ashby, West Virginia; Jeremy and Caitlyn Moreland and sons Matthew, Brayden, Liam and Mason, Laurel, Maryland; Sean Lehman, Morgantown, West Virginia; Aaron Lehman, Fort Ashby, West Virginia; Aaron and Samantha Kendall and son Benson, Cumberland, Maryland; Josh Howser, Wiley Ford, West Virginia; and many more family members and friends.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. 15205 McMullen Hwy, Cresaptown, Friday, February 3rd from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m.

Services will be held at the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, Short Gap, on Saturday, February 4th at 11 a.m., friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the service.  Pastors Ben Brakeall and Scott Knowlton will officiate.

A fellowship meal at the Church will follow the burial service which will be held at the Fort Ashby Cemetery located in Fort Ashby, West Virginia, on Fort Ashby Cemetery Road.

Pallbearers will be Jason Moreland, Jeremy Moreland, Darin Moreland, Sean Lehman, Aaron Lehman, Eric Moreland, Jeff Babich and Travis Orange.

We welcome you to celebrate in the joyful life of Travis.  We, as His family, will forever ponder Travis in our hearts.
