Wiley Ford—William Fay Elder, Sr., 87, of Wiley Ford, WV passed away on Friday, February 24, 2017 at the Dawn View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in State College, PA on May 20, 1929, he was the son of the late, George Elder and Mildred (Rossman) Elder. Fay was a graduate of Fort Ashby High School.  Following high school, Fay became a truck driver. He had driven for Celanese Trucking, and Valley Trucking from where he had retired.

Fay was a member of the Wiley Ford Volunteer Fire Company for 64 years. He was an active member of the Bethel Church of the Nazarene where he served on many Church Committees, and participated in several of the church’s activities.  Fay enjoyed being in the woods and deer hunting.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ray Elder; granddaughter, Krista Snider Smith; and son-in-law, J. Roy Lashbaugh.

Fay is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty Jane (Ward) Elder; children, Linda Lashbaugh, Wiley Ford, and William F. “Hippie” Elder and wife Peggy, Fort Ashby; grandchildren, Kevin Snider and wife Mary, and Travis W. Elder and wife Sarah; great-grandchildren, Kevin “Junior” Snider, Brandon Snider, Colton Elder, and Landyn Elder; brothers, Kay Elder and wife Mary Jo, Fort Ashby, and Jay Elder and wife Mary, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, on Monday, February 27, 2017, from 5 – 8 P.M. The Wiley Ford Volunteer Fire Company will conduct their memorial service on Monday at 7:30 P.M.

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at 1 P.M. with Rev. David Dayhoff officiating. Burial will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery.
