Cumberland—Wanda Lee Smith, 82, of Cumberland, passed away at the Western Maryland Health System on Friday, December 29, 2017.

Born in Cumberland, MD, on July 23, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Nellie L. (Whetzel) and Thomas Whetzel. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Arlene Ketterman.

Wanda was a graduate of Fort Hill School, class of 1953. Following high school, Wanda married and became a housewife and mother. Wanda was a member of the Memorial Heights Baptist Church.

Wanda is survived by her husband of 65 years, George A. Smith; her children, Thomas Smith and wife Monica, Wiley Ford, WV, Sharon Beavers, Cumberland, Cathy Smith, Wiley Ford, WV, Nellie Smith, Thornton, CO, and Gregory Smith and wife Carolyn, Cumberland; grandchildren, Rhiannon Tavenner, Neilson Smith, Sara Moya, Angela Shoemaker, Tommy House, Jeremy House, Shayna Estrada, Kristen Wakefield, Thomas Yanker, Justin Livesay, Kayla Smith, Shelby Smith, Makenna Smith, and Walker Smith; several great-grandchildren; and sister, Shirley See, Mathias, WV.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Saturday, December 30, 2017 from 4-6 P.M. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home at 6 P.M. with Rev. Chan Hubbard officiating.
